The clean beauty industry in Canada is growing, and with it comes the opportunity to uplift each other. There are already many brands in the US and beyond that share similar values to us, but especially these days, supporting local is a vitally important part of business. The best way to grow the selection of local products and companies is to support and grow those that exist currently, and this is precisely what we do. You create more of what you purchase by creating a demand for it, and here, we are demanding options for skincare, makeup, and body care that fit our values, within Canada.

what does clean beauty mean at portia-ella?

Our favourite question to answer! Our brands go above and beyond to create truly clean, conscious, and ethical products so that you can trust what's on your skin and in your home every day! This means that our products are:

non-toxic. we focus on naturally-derived ingredients that are sourced as locally as possible, strictly avoiding synthetics, endocrine-disruptors, skin-irritants, fragrances, silicones, petroleum-derived ingredients, known and possible carcinogens, phthalates, parabens, and more. we don't stop at safe, we focus on the best for your skin and home!
sustainable. we are against the use of practices that damage the environment, celebrating the innovative strides our brands make in regards to packaging, formulas, and ingredients that are not only healthy and easy to use, but are sustainable for our planet as well.
conscious. we focus on sourcing locally and sustainably, making sure that the raw ingredients are coming from somewhere that plant is native to, supporting biodiversity.
ethical. we only support safe and clean working environments.
fair. we demand fair wages to all of those involved from sourcing to production and distribution.
mined ethically. we stand against child labor.
cruelty-free. we stand against animal-cruelty, none of our products or ingredients are tested on animals.

why women-led?

The beauty industry is currently primarily controlled by men who, incidentally, are not the ones using these products the majority of the time. Women bring a different perspective to the table, and it’s really cool to be able to connect with a brand on a fundamental level. In our case, the makers of our brands, our portia-ella team, are personable and very much like the everyday woman, interacting with our communities, and experiencing life in all its beauty. Supporting women in business promotes diversity but also brings forth products that really perform, and perform the way we need them to! 95%+ of our brands are women-led and portia-ella is a woman-owned and women-led company.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with men-led brands, and we do have a few brands that are led by men. The products are just that good, and their values are fully aligned with ours. They give us some awesome options!
